Programming Schedule for July 14-21, 2007

 

All activities are designed for parent and child participation.  Please make sure that at least one adult attends programs with a child.  Activities are 100% voluntary.  Participate as your family chooses; this is your vacation, enjoy it!  Children need to be supervised on the waterfront; unsupervised children will be asked to return to their cabin.  Sign-up sheets for the Canoe Trip, Boat & Breakfast, Pontoon Excursion and crafts will be available at Opening Ceremonies and later in the Welcome Center.  We welcome you to the north woods of Wisconsin!

 

Saturday

9:00pm Ice Cream Social-I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!  Come on down to S.C. Lodge to enjoy some ice cream and meet with other Nawakwa families and staff.  Please bring your own bowl and spoon.

 

Sunday

10:00am New Camper Orientation- Attention all new campers!  We want you to make the most of your vacation.  Meet at the NC Parking Lot Bell Tower for a brief informational session and tour of camp.

 

11:00am Chapel-Join us in S.C. Lodge for an uplifting spiritual time with family, friends and staff.  Our Nawakwa team will lead you in Christian worship songs.  Discussion will revolve around Rob Bell (Nooma Dust) video tapes. Come and enjoy a Sunday morning worship time in the beautiful north woods.

 

12:00pm Family Cookout-Grab the family and head down to N.C. Beach for a grilling good time.  We’ll have the coals ready and waiting.  Please bring your own meat, non-alcoholic beverages, a dish to pass, plates, etc.

 

1:30pm Inclement Weather Test- While we hope everyday you spend at Nawakwa is 80° and Sunny, we know that inclement weather is bound to happen.  It is important that everyone at camp knows what to do when severe weather occurs.  Please send one family member to the NC Bell Tower when you hear the safety bell sound continuously for two minutes.  If you are in South Camp, please report to the SC Bathhouse when you hear the Marine Horn Sound. Refer to your Polices and Procedures Manual for more information.

 

2:00pm Canoe & Kayak Safety-Meet at N.C. Beach for a quick lesson on canoe and kayak safety.  Those who wish to attend the canoe trip are encouraged to participate.  Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to use the kayaks alone. 

 

2:00pm 6 Inch Gorillas- We’re sure you’ve seen them lurking about in camp but what do you really know about them?  Come down to NC Lodge to go in search of the elusive 6 Inch Gorilla.

 

3:00pm Family Volleyball- Time to get out and enjoy a fun, family favorite… Meet at the Volleyball Court.

         

4:00pm Archery- Would your skills make Robin Hood jealous?  Come to the Athletic Field and show off your stuff. 

    

7:30pm Opening Ceremonies-What better way to end the day then with singing and socializing.  Get fired up and head over to S.C. Lodge.  Sign ups for weekly programs will be available.

 

Monday

9:00am-12:00pm Kid’s Club-Are you a 5-12 years old?  If you are, you should meet at SC Lodge for a morning of fun, games and even snacks.  We will divide the kids in to age appropriate groups for most of the games and activities.  Parents need to be present to sign children in and out.

 

10:00am- Hoop Games- If you are 13 & up, head over to the Basketball Court for an hour of basketball games including Horse, 21 and a free throw shooting contest.   See you there!

 

11:30am South Chicago Horseshoe- Do you like to throw things?  If the answer is yes, then this game is for you.  Meet at the NC Parking lot to play this very exciting game of horseshoes.

 

1:00pm Water Bugs-  Bugs can tell us a lot about the environment!  We’ll head over to the lake with nets and magnifying glasses to discover the creepy crawlies that live there and see what they can tell us.  Please wear shoes/ sandals that you are willing to get wet.  Meet at the NC Parking lot.

 

1:00pm Pontoon Excursion- Enjoy your afternoon on the water by taking a relaxing ride on the pontoon boat.  Make sure you bring a life vest and some water.  We will be departing from NC Beach.  This trip is limited to 13 people; a sign-up sheet will be available at Opening Ceremonies and later in the Welcome Center.

2:00pm Four Square-One, two, three, four…square!  Gather at the Basketball Court to join in the fun.

 

3:00pm Learn to Swim- Do you want to learn how to swim or improve your skills?  Head down to NC Beach and our certified lifeguard and swim instructor Holly, will show you how to keep afloat!

 

4:00pm Kickball - Run over to the Athletic Field to play an American Favorite.   Kickball is for youth young and old…everybody plays!!

 

6:00pm Potluck- Hungry?  S.C. Lodge is the place to be.  Please bring at least 2 dishes: a dinner or salad and a dessert; non-alcoholic beverages and table service for your family.  Each dish should be larger then you would normally serve so everyone is able to fill their bellies.

 

7:30pm “Everything We Use Comes from Nature” Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center Presentation-   Stay in SC Lodge after the Potluck for a wonderful presentation about the harvesting practices of the Ojibwe located in this region of the Northwoods.  You will learn about the benefits from gathering and how to use your surrounding environment as a vital resource.  Don’t miss out!

 

8:30pm- 10:30pm Teen Night-Calling all 13-18 year olds, come to S.C. Lodge to meet other teens visiting for the week.  We will have a relaxing campfire, socialize and share stories.  Staff will be available to walk teens back to both S.C. Lodge and N.C. Beach.

 

Tuesday

8:00am-3:00pm- Manitowish River Canoe Trip-Start the day of right with a Manitowish River canoe/kayak trip.  We will spend nearly 4 hours on the water winding down this beautiful river. This trip is limited to 6 canoes (a minimum of 3); you will also have to provide your own transportation to and from the put in site.  Please bring a lunch.  Sign up sheets available at Opening Ceremonies and later in the Welcome Center.  This trip is designed for individuals 15 years old and older.

 

9:00am Family Portraits- Come on over to SC Lodge and learn about an artistic way to create a family portrait to take home and display for all to see.  No drawing required!!!

 

10:00am Sun Catchers- Capture all the beautiful sunlight this summer through an easy to make sun catcher.  It will be a great memento to remember all the good times

you have at Camp Nawakwa.  This program is suitable for all ages and will be held at SC Lodge.  The cost is $2 and a sign-up sheet will be available at Opening Ceremonies and later in the Welcome Center.

 

11:00am- Treasure Hunt- Ey Matey… Captain Victoria here; I’ve hidden my treasure and can’t seem to find it.  I need your help to recover my pirate’s booty.  Meet at S.C. Lodge to go in search of my lost treasure.

 

1:00pm Capture the Flag-There are no boundaries to the excitement of this game!  Sneak over to the North Camp parking lot to join in a camp favorite.

 

2:00pm Competitive Volleyball- We know you warmed up during family volleyball so now it’s time to strut your stuff with some competitive action!  Grab your team and set up for some good play at the volleyball courts!

 

3:00pm Foosball Tournament-   Let’s start the week of right with some friendly competition over the foosball table.  Put your game face on and head out to NC Lodge for a kicking good time!

 

4:00pm Sand Castle Building Competition- Alright campers, it’s time to get down and dirty in the sand!  Bring your creativity down to NC Beach and compete in our very own Sand Castle Building Competition!  The winner will be announced at Closing CampfireJ

 

6:30pm Apples 2 Apples- Come Join us for a hilarious game of Apples 2 Apples. This game is suited for all campers, 8 years old and older.  Meet at SC Lodge for a good time with some good friendsJ

 

8:00pm Movie Night-Bring your sleeping bag and pillow to SC Lodge and get cozy; we’ll provide the popcorn.  (We encourage sneaking snacks and drinks into our theater)  This week we will be showing: Over the Hedge.

 

Wednesday

9:00am Boat & Breakfast-MMM…breakfast and you don’t even have to cook it!  The staff will do it for you.  Our menu includes bacon, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, coffee, milk and orange juice.  Don’t forget to bring a table setting for your family.  The cost is $5; children 4 and under are free.  Please pay for Boat & Breakfast at Opening Ceremonies or bring the money to the Welcome Center by Tuesday @ 2:00pm

 

1:00pm Soccer- It’s time to burn up those calories from Boat & Breakfast by hitting the Athletic Field for a rowdy game of soccer.  Lace up your cleats because it’s time to score a goal!

 

2:00pm Survivor on the Big Island- Your cruise ship has sunk and you managed to get yourself to an island but you have minimal supplies and limited knowledge.  Would you survive?  Meet at NC Beach to find out; we will be canoeing out to the Big Island.

 

3:00pm Picture Scavenger Hunt- It’s time to try a family scavenger hunt- Nawakwa style!  You will travel through beautiful camp Nawakwa as you unscramble clues to find your next destination- and snap a picture!  Meet at the NC deck for some quality family time!  Please bring your digital camera if you have one!  

 

4:00pm The Ultimate Game- It’s time to put an end to boring games; it’s your turn to create the ultimate game with your rules.  Run down to the Athletic Field to create the game YOU want to play.  If you have athletic equipment, bring it along to keep things unique.

 

6:30pm R U Smarter than a Nawakwa Staff Member?- Need to say more?  Come test your knowledge against your very own Nawakwa staff members.  It is guaranteed to be a great time @ SC Lodge.  This could be your chance to earn bragging rights….

 

8:00pm Friendship Campfire- Meet at NC Beach for a traditional campfire with songs led by Russ & Gary.

 

9:00pm- 10:30pm Jiggy for Jesus- If you are a super cool teenager, you don’t want to miss this!  Head on over to SC Lodge for an awesome evening of Christian fun & fellowship.  We’ll show a short video, play games, hang out and chow down on some good eats!

 

Thursday

9:00am Kid’s Kraft Korner- Art is displayed in all forms.  Come to SC Lodge to check out this innovative way to create beautiful designs with plastic melting beads. This craft cost $2.  A sign-up sheet will be available at

Opening Ceremonies and later in the Welcome Center.

 

10:00am Adult Horseshoes- Now that you have had some time to practice South Chicago Style, it is time to get serious and possibly earn some money!  We will play two rounds; one to warm up and another for cash.  $5 gets you in to the money round and the winner gets the pot.  You must be 18 or older to play.  Meet at the Volleyball court.

 

10:00am- Games Break- Hey Kids, run over to the Athletic Field for a chance to play a ton of crazy games and have a whole lot of fun!

 

11:30am Picnic & Poetry- We are going on a picnic and we would love your company.  Bring a yummy lunch and meet us at the NC Bell Tower.   We will find a nice spot to eat and enjoy some poetry by Shel Silverstein.  Feel free to bring any poetry you would like to share with the groupJ

1:00pm Ping Pong Tournament- Meet at the N.C. Lodge basement to serve up an awesome time!

 

2:00pm Water Polo- Head on down to SC Beach to try this fast pace water game.  If you are not a strong swimmer, please bring a life jacket.  This program is designed for campers 16 years and older.  See you there!

 

3:00pm Drama~Rama- Are you a Whose Line is it Anyway fan?  Like the BIG SCREEN?  If the answer is YES, then we want you!  Come on over to NC Beach for some fun improv games!  Oh, you’re so DRAMAtic….

 

4:00pm Archery II-If you couldn’t get enough the first time or weren’t able to attend, here’s your chance to try it again.  Meet up at the Athletic Field for round two of archery.

 

6:30pm B-I-N-G-O!  Meet at SC Lodge for an evening of Bingo mania!  Don’t forget to bring some pieces of wrapped candy to get in to each game!

 

7:30pm Square Dancing- Lace up your dancing boots and dance your way over to SC Lodge for a great time.  Russ Wicker will show us how to do-di-do and swing your partner round and round.

 

9:00pm- 10:30pm Night Hike- It’s time to explore the great Northwoods after hours!  Meet at NC Beach to play some fun nighttime games as we will travel along the Nature Trail to North Camp.  Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bug spray.  See you there!

 

Friday

11:00am Triathlon-Create teams of 1 to 3 people to run from South Camp to North Camp, row to the island and swim back to N.C. Beach.  Meet with your team at N.C. Beach

2:00pm Water Carnival-Here we go kiddies (and adulties)…you’re last (well, second to last) chance to be wild and crazy.  Meet at N.C.  Beach and don’t forget your swimsuits!

 

7:30pm Closing Campfire-We’ll all shed a tear because it’s our last night together…wait a second…we’ll be shedding tears of laughter. All families are encouraged to prepare a skit, song or story to share at this farewell event at N.C. Beach.

 

Saturday

9:00am Check-Out- The time has come to say farewell until we meet again.  Help us to prepare for our next campers by tidying your cabins and following the check out sheet.  Please be out of your cabin by 10am.  Let us know if there are problems in the cabin so we can repair them.  Turn your key into the office before you leave.  Have a safe trip home J
